Julie Compans (Audio-describer)
After studying Anthropology of the Body and Performing Arts at the University of Nice, Compans continued her training at Epse Danse Montpellier, directed by Anne-Marie Porras.
In 2012, she joined Christophe Garcia’s dance company, La Parenthèse with whom she danced for more than 15 years. At the same time Compans has collaborated with stage director Marie-Ève Signeyrole choreographing several operas in France and internationally.
In 2018, she began audio-describing dance performances for blind and partially sighted audiences with the association Accès Culture. Compans has since joined dancer and choreographer Mellina Boubetra to provide live, on-stage description of an improvised dance performed before the audience in Nyst (Vive le sujet!, Festival d’Avignon 2022).
Currently, she is choreographing Bleu, a piece for two blind dancers and a musician, and performs with dance company As Soon As Possible, directed by Nina Vallon.
