Carlos Carreras (French Sign Language Coach), passionate about artistic creation and driven by the collective energy of the various groups, companies, and training programs with which he collaborates, Carreras engages in projects that aim to break down the boundaries between different forms of artistic expression.

 

With a rich and diverse career spanning 30 years, Carreras is a French and Spanish Sign Language (LSF) performer, an “Interpoète,” (interpretive poet) chansigner (singing signer), actor, and author. On stage, also serving as an outside eye, coach, movement director; his work seeks to create “enhanced” performances, where the whole body serves the work through the visual and iconic power of sign language.

 

As a performer/actor, Carreras has collaborated with Emmanuelle Laborit, Brecht, Imbert, Bertrand Belin, Collectif 2 Poings, and Accès Culture, among others. He has participated in productions presented at renowned French stages such as the International Visual Theatre (Paris), Centre Dramatique du Poitou Charentes, Comédie de Caen, Théâtre Régional des Pays de la Loire, Théâtre Molière-Sète, Institut du Monde Arabe, Théâtre National de Chaillot, Philharmonie de Paris, Conservatoire de Sète, Ateliers Chantsigne Lyrique, amongst others.

 

In live concert-performances, Carreras sing signs for artists such as Youssoupha, Bandit-Bandit, Gronge, Bravo Benoit, Lyse Van Deuk, Clara Ysé, amongst others. Alongside, he works as a coach for dance productions with choreographers Wanjiru Kamuyu (WKcollective) and Solène Weinachter. He is also regularly interprets for various French television channels.

 

Since 2012, Carreras has been part of the LSF interpreters’ team of the French based association Accès Culture, an organization dedicated to supporting performing arts institutions in implementing their accessibility policies.
